Two retired Navy captain spouses own this working farm, equestrian center, vineyard and winery located in scenic New Kent County. This land near the intersection of the Lafayette and Washington-Rochambeau trails to Yorktown once served as a Civil War encampment. The avid horse enthusiasts first opened the state-the-art equestrian center in 2011. Today, visitors enjoy reserving a riding lesson followed by a glass of wine.

Norton grapes thrive here at the Fair Winds Farm, where the first 3,200 acres of grapes were planted in 2012. The winery looks across to the vineyard and sits above the natural pond toward the back of the farm. During harvest time, community members are encouraged to join the family to pick grapes. Schedule a Friday or Saturday visit when you can pair one of the Gauthier wines with a wood-fired pizza. You’ll find nothing but serenity at this peaceful country setting located at the end of a winding, single-lane road.
